FAQs

  • Which wood is used to produce your cutting boards?

    - Cutwoody uses woods that is hard and resistant to moisture and water, as well as small pores because it is difficult for bacteria and liquids to penetrate and of course we turn to trees that are naturally non-toxic.

Example of these woods are: Acacia wood, Yellow pine wood, maple wood, walnut wood, teakwood, cherry wood.

  • will my board look indentical to your photos?

No, wood is a natural material every tree is one of a kind our boards have natural beauty and each one isdifferent and has unique grain and color. it will be not identical but similar. if you are not happy with your board, please check our retun policy.

  • Are your boards reversible?

    All our boards are reversible.

  • What is the difference between End-Grain , Edge-Grain and Face grain?

an End-Grain: cutting board is a board where in the wood grains are perpendicular to the cutting surface, and not parallel as in ordinary cutting boards, End-Grain boards are formed by little pieces glued together to construct an elegant and amazing pattern the end grain wood fibers absorb the impact of the knife blade while chopping, allowing your knife to stay sharper and your board surfaces to stay smoother.

Edge-Grain: boards are cut with the grain's edge so the wood fibers are aligned horizontally. this is the most common construction for wood cutting boards and is known for it's durability, less, water absorption and softer for the knife's blade.

Face-Grain: face grain boards will show knife marks faster than edge-grain or end-grain boards and are not recommended for heavy chopping use but, face grain shows the most grain and often are the most striking of all cutting boards

  • Why not use plastic or glass for cutting boards?

According to a scientific study on wood and plastic cutting boards, conducted by Dean O. Cliver, Ph.D, it has been shown that wood cutting boards are, in fact, healthy because certain types of wood seem to exhibit antibacterial properties, while plastic boards have been shown to be healthy. Scientifically it harbors bacteria within the cut grooves.

    plastic

According to research by the University of Michigan and another study by the University of Wisconsin. Every time you use one, the knife leaves very small cuts in the plastic. This makes the house a pleasant place for bacteria to grow in. Although it is washed, it retains a portion of the bacteria on its surface that is not visible to the naked eye. Although plastic does not absorb liquids, with frequent use, the surface becomes distorted with a knife and some types of plastic change color due to washing it in the dishwasher, so it is difficult to clean it and return it to its original color. Once there are a lot of noticeable orchards in the plastic, it's time to throw them away. You can use a cutting board every few months, which is neither cost effective nor good for the environment.

      glass

I would advise against using glass cutting boards for one simple reason: they are loud. Each knife cut will resonate throughout your kitchen and make your ears ring. And don't forget it's unsafe just because it's easy to break, which keeps it in short term use, you need a new cutting board every now and then.

  • Are your products food safe?

Yes! We do not use any harmful chemicals or synthetic glazes to coat our boards.

  • Are your boards pre-finished?

Yes, all our boards are prefinished with a mix of Mineral oil and beeswax. Our Boards are ready-to-use; before using for the first time wash it with warm soapy water, rinse off dry with a kitchen towel.

  • Cani chop raw meet on wooden cutting boards?

Yes! CUTWOODY  has antibacterial properties, i.e. THEY DO NOT harbor bacteria. Nevertheless, for functionality and an easy cooking experience we recommended the habit of use different cutting boards to food prep. For example, use one for raw meat, and another for vegetables.

  • My board is showing knife marks...is this normal! And how is it repaired?

It's totally normal! In all types of hardwoods. The hardness of wood is associated with durability and stability. Woody's hardness is not too soft to provide a luxurious cutting experience and it is not too difficult to keep your knives sharp.

You can't avoid knife marks, but you can fix them. We recommend sanding the cutting board when the marks are deep, you can buy a care box from us and start with medium (100) coarse sandpaper and finish with a fine grit, then wash and oil the board and it will look again like new.

Note: You should always keep your knives sharp, because dull knives mean that you have to press harder on the cutting, which will cause marks to appear on the board.

  • How do you wash a cutting board?

Keep your cutwoody cutting board sterile once you wash it! Wash the cutting board after each use.

    a. Hand wash in warm *not hot* soapy water after each use.

    B. rinse.

    c. Dry it with a kitchen towel, or preferably let it air dry, but place it upright and not crosswise to prevent water from accumulating and seeping into the board.

D.. When you are sure it is completely dry, place it on its stand and display it on the table.

    e. Do not put it in the dishwasher and do not soak it in water.

Wood is a natural material and tends to expand and contract. Excess moisture is the cause of cracks and splits. We recommend that you do not store the board in closed places

  • How to remove odors OR stains?

A cutwoody cutting board rarely absorbs odors or stains.  Yet, it can happen! Only three natural ingredients are needed to remove odors or stains: lemon, salt and baking soda.

    1. Cut a lemon and rub it in on the cutting board.

    2. Sprinkle the board generously with kosher or table salt or baking soda (the salt or baking soda will absorb any odors, flavors and stains).

    3. Build a paste over the board rubbing the lemon and squeezing the juice.

    4. Let it dry for some hours.

    5. Remove the dry paste with the help of a spatula or your hands.

    6. Wash, rinse and dry; and be sure to oil your board after.

  • How do you decorate your cutting board?

The naturally high oil content in teak, acts as a water repellent, and this oil will keep the board moist for longer periods of time. Oiling twice a month keeps your board healthy.

    1. ONLY USE CUTWOODY MAINTENANCE PRODUCTS WE PROVIDE YOU ON OUR WEBSITE

    2. Leave the oil absorbed for at least six hours, for better results, leave it on overnight.

    3. Wipe off any remaining oil with a clean, dry cloth.

    4. Don't let your board dry out, or lack lubrication results on cracks, warps, or splits.

    5. Avoid any cooking oil (olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, etc.) these oils spoil the board

  • Why i need to oil my cutting board?

To increase the board life to lifetime, to avoid cracks or splits, to bring life the fabulous colors and to keep safe from any bacteria.
